Crystal Sands 411 Owner’s Manual
Welcome to our home away from home. We hope enjoy your stay as much as we do when we’re here. Here are a number of things you might like to know about 411 and about the Crystal Sands complex.
We refer to the rooms as the west wing (the one with 2 beds), the east wing (the one with one queen bed) and the living area (In the middle). All items in any cupboards or closets are available for your use. Anything we’d rather you didn’t use, we keep in a locked closet right behind the front door. Please return anything you used to the place you found it.
Safety and Security
In the event of a real emergency, call 911 on your telephone. For immediate issues with our unit, please call the office at 349-7007.
The fob (the gray teardrop shaped thingey) attached to your unit key is the prime security device in the complex. Use it to gain entry to the beach and pool through the main lobby and use it to call the main elevators before 9:00 am or after 5:00 pm. You must also use the fob to access the elevator right beside our unit from the ground floor. You will also need your fob to access the stairwells from the ground floor at all times.
Quirky Stuff
In the bathroom in the east wing – the one with the bath tub, the Hot and Cold pipes are reversed. Just for the tub, if you want Hot, you have to turn the dial to Cold. The sink tap works the way you would expect it to. This little quirk has been here since the unit was built.
The Dishwasher currently is locked to Regular cycle only, one of these days, we will replace it, but it washes just fine, simply move the lock lever to lock, turn the dial for either delayed start or to the start line and let it do it’s stuff.
Parking
When you checked in you will receive your parking space number/location. For additional cars or guests, they must park in a non-covered space. All cars parked overnight will need a parking pass – available from the office.
Heating and Air Conditioning
To operate the thermostat, push the Power button marked on the right hand side. Now all functions are controlled by the touch screen. To cool, touch cool, then use the up (+) and down (-) buttons on the right side to change temperature. When you open the Lanai doors, please turn off the A/C by pressing Power, then touching OFF.
Television and Video
The living area has the flat screen and DVD player. To watch TV, simply use the remote with a big round FIOS in the middle. Hit SBS Power at the top and that turns on both the TV and the set top box. The FIOS remote controls the TV on/off and volume as well as the channels. If you cannot see the channels, use the remote labelled TV to ensure the TV is on and the input is selected to HDMI1/DVI.
To us the DVD player, use the remote labelled DVD on the back. This remote turns on the DVD player and the TV. Ensure the TV input is selected to HDMI2. Use the DVD remote control to play you video.
West Wing
The west wing is equipped with a flat screen TV. The FIOS remote control will turn the TV On/Off, control the volume as well as the channels.
East Wing
The East wing is equipped with a TV. The FIOS remote control will turn the TV On/Off, control the volume as well as the channels. There is also a DVD player attached. Simply turn the TV to component video input, then use the dvd player controll to operate.
Telephone
There are 5 phones in the unit, 4 cordless and one old fashioned corded one in the east wing. The corded phone is the only one which works in a power failure. That’s why we keep it.
Long distance anywhere in North America is included in your stay. For calls outside North America, you will have to use a credit card or other method.
Internet
There is Wi-Fi in the unit and use is included in your stay. Coverage extends to the pool area, but not all the way to the beach. To connect, you will need to know the network ID and password. When you checked in, you will have received the network name and password to access.
Garbage
Crystal Sands supports recycling. You will need to separate your garbage into papers, plastics and waste. There are garbage facilities on each floor. Head towards the main elevators (out the door to your right), just before the elevator lobby, there is a garbage room on the left, just past the laundry room. In it, you will find large bins for plastics and for paper products. There is also a garbage chute in the laundry room for your general waste.
Supplies
Generally we try to stock our unit with enough cleaning and other supplies, like spare light bulbs and such, to make our stay and yours more convenient. You will usually find large sizes of dishwasher packets, dish soap, laundry detergent and others located in either under the kitchen sink or in the utility room. If you use the last of something, we ask that you replace it with a large size of whatever was used up.
Grocery and other supplies are available locally. There is the Crescent Market which is ¼ mile south on the other side of Midnight Pass road, on the south east corner of Stickney Point road. Crescent Market will even deliver! Call them at 312-0472. Just beyond it is a 7-11. We usually go to the Publix in the mall on the South-East corner of Stickney Point Road and Tamiami Trail (41). There are newspaper boxes right near the main building entrance.
Laundry
There is a small washer and dryer in the utility room. If you have a large load, there are also coin operated, full size machines on the fourth floor just before you reach the main elevators.
Washer
To use, load clothes, open the soap dispenser on the top right corner of the washer. To open, slide the lock release to your left, then open the drawer. The drawer can dispense soap, bleach and softener. Please ensure you use High Efficiency soap (HE). Select your cycle and fabric type from the dials to the top left of the machine, pull out the main cycle selector knob to start the machine.
Dryer
Before loading, pull out and empty the lint filter on the top center of the dryer. The lint filter needs to be cleaned before each load. Load clothes, select your cycle and push the start button to operate.
Wet clothes
Bathing suits, towels and other wet items may be hung up on the drying rack, usually kept on the Lanai. Please do not leave wet items on the furniture or carpets.
Crystal Sands facilities
Beach access is through the doors behind the main elevators. You will need your fob to get in and out. The main pool is right beside the beach. There are beach chairs stacked up by the beach wall. Use of these chairs is included in your stay, except for the large double wooden chairs with blue canvas covers. Those are available for rental. When finished with the chairs, please stack them back where you found them. The pool also has some chairs for your use.
There is also a second pool, right behind the office near the road. This one is great for days when it’s a bit cool, a bit windy or you just want a quieter environment.
Right beside your parking space are two gas barbeques you may use. They are on a first come, first served basis.
When you leave
Please empty all the Garbage, pile all linens and towels used by the washing machine and turn off the A/C. The refrigerator also needs to be empty. Your cleaning fee only covers the sheets and bathroom towels you used while you were here. It doesn’t cover washing any beach towels used or any unusual cleaning that may be required. Return all keys and Fobs to the Office. Have a safe trip home and we hope you enjoyed your stay.
